THE WOMEN PORTERS OF PERU, NEPAL AND KILIMANJARO

This page is dedicated to sharing the stories from the viewpoint of women porters. In the past decade, the rise of women porters in Peru, Nepal and Kilimanjaro has been notably significant. However, the change came with challenges as women have reported sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions alongside their male counterparts. Most of these incidents go unreported to authorities and unaddressed, let alone shared with the media.

Although the inclusion of women in such a historically male dominated industry is to be celebrated, there is a rising concern for women porters who lack protection from harassment and discrimination vis a vis laws and regulations on the mountain trails. This page will contain the voices of women porters and all the information you need to become an ally and an advocate for better working conditions catered specifically to the concerns of women porters.

Let’s listen to, celebrate, amplify and elevate the women porter voices.
